In the U.S. according to the Brain Injury Institute, there are between 1.6-3.8 million concussions every year. Concussions are not something to mess around with or take lightly it is a serious injury and must be properly taken care of. Here are the symptoms, the ways to care for them, and ways to prevent them.
If a large collision happens, for instance, in football if a player makes contact with someone using their head the force of the blow can cause a concussion. If the player has a concussion some of their symptoms will be lightheadedness, dizziness, headache, mood changes, nausea, confusion, and/or blurred vision.
The best way to treat a concussion is to rest and sleep as much as possible. Your brain is injured so you want to give it as much rest as possible. Headaches are very common with a concussion so Tylenol and Advil are the best options for medicine to lessen the pain.
The best way to prevent a concussion is to have better protection for your head. For example, in football make sure your helmet fits your head properly and be careful not to use your head when tackling.
Be careful with your brain and take good care of it because you only have one. Try to prevent your head from being hit too hard and if you do get a concussion be sure to take proper care for it.
